One student of Damongo Senior High School (SHS) in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region has been confirmed dead and 9 others are currently on admission at the Damongo Government Hospital following a reported outbreak of meningitis.
The deceased person identified as Nantomah Fadila, a first year Home Economics student from Tamale, collapsed this morning and was rushed to the hospital where she died shortly on admission.
Sources at the facility disclosed to mynewsgh.com that moments later, the rest also showed similar signs of the disease and were rushed to the facility and are currently responding to treatment
District Chief Executive (DCE) Saeed Muazu Jibreal who confirmed the incident to mynewsgh.com, disclosed that surveillance have been stepped up on the campus whist health authorities have equally been notified about the matter.
Fear has however gripped students of the school who are currently writing their end of term examination ahead of the Christmas break.
