Organised Labour will meet on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, to decide on a planned nationwide protest against the government’s failure to address illegal mining, or ‘galamsey.’
Several unions threatened to protest if President Akufo-Addo did not declare a state of emergency over the issue.
The Ghana Mine Workers Union’s General Secretary, Abdul Moomin Gbana, said the meeting will review their demands and confirm their next steps.
He criticized the President for not mentioning illegal mining during his recent speech, suggesting he may be overwhelmed or has given up on the fight against galamsey.
