The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has criticized the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for spending $1.13 million in 2023 and a total of $14 million on maritime boundary disputes, despite the Ghana Boundary Commission's mandate to handle such issues.
PIAC previously highlighted that GNPC spent $3.8 million in 2017 on the Ghana-La Cote d’Ivoire Maritime Boundary Dispute, demanding a refund as the matter involves sovereign states, not a National Oil Company.
Despite PIAC's objections, GNPC continues these expenditures, justifying them as part of its state oil management role and approved annual work programme, which PIAC disputes.
