NASPAWAP has joined plastic manufacturers in urging the government to indefinitely suspend the new 5% excise tax on finished plastics.

They argue the tax will increase prices for bottled and sachet water, already impacted by the cedi’s depreciation.

Instead, NASPAWAP suggests lowering the environmental tax on imported plastic granules to 1% and imposing a 10% tax on the CIF value of semi-finished plastics.

They claim this approach would generate more revenue for plastic management and highlight that all past efforts in plastic management have been privately funded, calling for government engagement with stakeholders.
