Parents can be sued for child neglect but… – Lawyer

Professor Yaw Anokye Frimpong has stated that children who suffered neglect can sue their parents, but must do so before turning 18.

He emphasized the 1992 Constitution's provisions for children's rights to special care and maintenance.

This comes after concerns from CHRAJ's Commissioner, Joseph Whittal, about rising child neglect due to economic hardship.

In 2021, CHRAJ handled numerous cases related to children's rights, including 1,914 Right to Maintenance cases and 146 Right to Education cases.

Prof. Frimpong noted that while some parents neglect their children due to poverty, legal action is limited to those under 18.
