Passenger handed over to NIB after his luggage nearly sparked fire at Kotoka Int’l Airport

Authorities at Kotoka International Airport have handed over a passenger to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) after their luggage nearly caused a fire.

On September 22, the bag was discovered emitting smoke in the Terminal 3 Departure Hall at 3:27 p.m.

Aviation Security swiftly isolated the luggage, and the terminal was evacuated following emergency procedures.

The incident prompted a reminder from the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) that traveling with batteries violates international aviation rules, leading to confiscation and potential legal action.

Operations at the terminal resumed smoothly after the evacuation.
