The Ghana Police Service has filed an injunction to halt the Gen-Z demonstration set for July 31 to August 6, 2024.
The protest aims to rally over 2 million youths in Accra to address economic hardships, driving many to drug addiction, dangerous migrations, and terrorism.
Protesters also oppose heavy taxes, including the betting tax, COVID-19 tax, sanitation tax, and increased internet data taxes, and express disapproval of corruption and nepotism in the current administration.
The court will hear the injunction on July 30, 2024. Organizers, citing constitutional rights, vow to defend their right to protest, inspired by Kenya's youth protests.
