Police to gun down ballot box snatchers

The police administration has served notice that they will gun down persons who attempt snatching ballot boxes on Election Day and have therefore appealed to those who may be nursing such a move to immediately discard it.

The Asamankese District police commander in the Eastern Region, S.P. Sampson Anane Appiah who gave the warning indicated that his outfit will not deal leniently with anyone who falls foul of the law on Election Day.

He has therefore urged representatives of the various political parties to conduct themselves accordingly or risk incurring the wrath of his men who will be deployed to all polling stations to ensure that no incidents are recorded.

“Political parties and supporters who are used to preventing people from exercising their franchise and will be arrested and dealt with accordingly”, he warned.

Speaking at a constituency parliamentary debate organized by National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), the police chief revealed that police are well equipped and prepared for violence-free election in the Lower West Akyem Constituency.

S.P. Anane Appiah, however, called on political parties and their supporters to conduct their campaign decently for free, fair and transparent election and appealed to the constituents to collaborate with the police to fight electoral violence.
