Policy failure cause of challenges in health sector – MP

Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Wa Central MP Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Wa Central MP

The current challenges in the health system in Ghana are as a result of the failure of the current government to implement the existing policies they inherited from the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has said.

According to him, so much investments were made in the health sector, resulting in the building of several hospitals. However, the current government has failed to utilise those hospitals that have been completed, thereby aggravating the plight of Ghanaians.

Commenting on the debate on Ghana’s health system on TV3’s New Day Saturday July 14, Mr Pelpuo said : “ I think there is a policy failure in health care delivery and that is causing the problems we see today.”

“We have 10 hospitals that have been completed but are not being used. We have the University of Ghana Medical Centre, The Bank of Ghana Hospital, the Navy hospital and several of them that have been completed, moneys were spent on them but are not in use. So I think there is something wrong with policy implementations.”

“The past government built regional hospitals in all the regions in Ghana, again so much investments but because of the apparent break in policy continuity they are not being used.”
