Prof. Godfred Bokpin, a Finance and Economics expert at the University of Ghana Business School, has slammed the government for inefficient use of public funds, highlighting inflated costs on projects like the One Village, One Dam initiative and the Flower Pot Interchange.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Prof. Bokpin accused the government of prioritizing costly projects that offer little value while neglecting basic infrastructure like road maintenance.
He remarked that some dams built under the One Village, One Dam program are so ineffective that potholes hold more water.
The economist also criticized the near-GH₵1 billion cost of the Flower Pot Interchange, initially budgeted at GH₵69.5 million in 2016.
The National Roads Authority defended the increase, citing an expanded scope of work, but concerns about inefficiency remain.
Prof. Bokpin urged credible leadership and prudent resource management to address Ghana’s rising cost of living and underdevelopment.
