Primary contacts of University of Ghana coronavirus patient test negative

All persons who came into contact with the University of Ghana student who tested positive to the coronavirus pandemic have tested negative after completing the 14-day mandatory quarantine period.

This is according to a statement from the office of the university’s registrar.

Eighty-two students and twelve employees were identified as primary contacts of the student and were advised to self-quarantine to avoid spreading the pandemic if they had been infected.

They were kept at a quarantine facility on campus for easy monitoring, feeding and provision of psychological support till the end of the quarantine period after which tests were conducted on them

“With all the primary contacts testing negative for COVID-19 as certified by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, and with the closure of the University, buses were made available by the University of Ghana to convey students who live in and outside Accra to their various destinations,” the statements reads.

It adds that the students received the “necessary counselling and education on precautionary measures with respect to COVID-19.”

The statement shared on the twitter handle of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research stated that the affected student is still in isolation at a National Quarantine facility and is making steady progress.

Ghana has so far recorded 152 cases of the pandemic. Five of the affected have died whilst two have recovered.
