The National President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Rev Isaac Owusu, has criticized the proposed Free SHS Bill by the Akufo-Addo government, seeing it as politically motivated.

He argued that a new law is unnecessary, as existing legislation already covers pre-tertiary education.

Education Minister Dr. Yaw Adutwum announced the bill aims to provide legal backing for free SHS education, restructuring junior high school (JHS), and eliminating the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) as a prerequisite for SHS admission.

Owusu urged politicians to keep politics out of education and rely on expert guidance.
