Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, has called for government action against shareholders of banks implicated in the financial sector cleanup.
At a press conference with the Ministry of Finance and the IMF, Dr. Addison stressed the need for accountability and urged the government to expedite addressing these issues.
He emphasized pursuing those still holding funds meant for the cleanup. The Bank of Ghana conducted a sector cleanup and regulatory reforms from mid-2017 to December 2018 to ensure financial stability.
Dr. Addison highlighted the importance of allowing the law to act against shareholders who misappropriated depositors' funds.
