Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has clarified that delays in illegal mining (galamsey) cases are primarily due to prosecutors, not judges.
Her response came after Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame urged for quicker rulings from the judiciary to address environmental damage caused by galamsey.
While Dame emphasized the need for swift justice at the Annual Conference of Magistrates and Judges, Torkornoo pointed out that discussions reveal the real holdup lies with prosecutorial processes.
She stressed that efficient prosecution is crucial for timely judicial outcomes in these cases.
