Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies and one time NDC flagbearer aspirant, Professor Joshua Alabi says comments by former President Jerry Rawlings about NDC’s chances in the 2020 elections must be seen as positive and a call for hard work.

Professor Alabi who was present at the meeting with Cadres in Kumasi where Mr Rawlings spoke said members of the party must not allow themselves to be influences by the twists on media platforms.

Professor Joshua Alabi, a former appointee of the Jerry Rawlings Administration, and NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia were few leaders of the party present during the frank discussions with cadres at Ejisu over the weekend as the NDC strategizes towards the 2020 elections.

The National Cadres conference for the middle belt was on the theme: “Effective mobilisation and organisation for victory 2020: The role of cadres.”

More than 200 cadres from the Ashanti and Bono regions gathered to strategise for the party ahead of the 2020 elections.

Publications by a section of the media suggesting the former President has cast doubt in the NDC’s ability to win the polls has attracted mixed reactions. Mr. Rawlings said “For a Cadres meeting to be taking place, if we cannot do a serious indent examination of our strength and weakness then it is not a real Cadres meeting. It’s nice to hear your determination towards 2020 victory, and yes there are some among us in the leadership who initially didn’t think after four years you can wrestle power from these people,’’ he stressed.

But speaking to TV XYZ News’ Wisdom Hededzome, Professor Alabi who contested the NDC’s 2020 Presidential slot said, Mr Rawlings meant that “In fact all the elections we have won have been very difficult. So saying very difficult doesn’t mean we are not going to win."

"He is only telling us that like the other election, we should work and work and work as a Party to get there,” he said.

Professor Alabi said members of the party must see his comments as positive because among the several issues he raised, the objective as the need for hard work and not complacency because the NPP has failed Ghanaians.
