Two persons are trapped under a caterpillar truck involved in an accident at Adoagyir near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
Reports say the caterpillar was being moved onto a low loader trailer late afternoon Sunday at about 3:00 p.m. when it fell on the two said to be the driver and the mate of the trailer, trapping them.
Rescuers from the Ghana National Fire Service with support from the youth of Adoagyir are currently at the scene trying to rescue the two who have been trapped for over five hours with no hope in sight.
Eyewitnesses told 3news.com a while ago that the two have been located under the truck and are alive, but appear weak and racing against time for their lives.
A video from the scene showed rescuers holding torchlights and considering all rescue methods to save the two. From the same video, the arm of one of the victims was seen trapped under the caterpillar as he laid on the ground flat.
Another caterpillar truck has arrived at the scene to help in lifting the fallen truck, but an eyewitness told 3news.com that it has not been successful.
According to him, they will need another truck to lift the other side of the fallen truck to be able to remove the trapped persons.
The incident has caused gridlock on the Adoagyir stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway, leaving passengers in traffic for long hours.
According to eyewitnesses, angry residents blocked the highway to compel police officers to show up at the scene to help in the rescue efforts.
As at 7:00 p.m., some military and police personnel were on their way to the accident scene.
