Residents frustrated over inability to register for Ghana Card

Expressing frustration of not being able to acquire a card once the registration is moved to a different zone, some residents noted that waking up at dawn or sleeping over at the centres in other to get registered isn't appropriate.

According to some of the residents, they've queued for more than two days to the extent of sleeping at the centres so they get the opportunity to register but that proved futile.

One woman was who extremely angry told Ghanaweb that "I have been coming here since Tuesday and anytime I come, they don't attend to me but you see them attending to other people giving excuses that they are security personnel. if they won't register us; they should tell us so we know we are not Ghanaians.''



Another person also voiced out stating that "I've been sleeping here so that I can get the opportunity to register but they don't mind me. They rather attend to people who just came and leave us here. Even pregnant women and grown-ups who cannot walk are all here and can't register. So we are pleading with the government to extend the date for us".

About the registration process so far

Several people prior to this have registered fears of being unable to acquire a card once the registration is over within their vicinity, for which reason many have flooded some centres during the one month period to get themselves registered.

Per a statement from the authority signed by Head of Corporate Affairs of the Authority, ACI Francil Palmdeti, there will be District and Regional centres set up by the NIA after the mass registration in Accra to make space for persons who were unable to go through the process during the mass registration.

“The NIA is unable to grant the request to extend the duration of the mass registration exercise in the said Zone as doing so will adversely affect the published national roll-out strategy. Persons who were unable to register during the mass registration exercise in the Accra West Zone will be able to do so at District and Regional offices to be set up by NIA after the mass registration exercise”, a portion of the statement read.

It also noted that collection points will be announced subsequently for persons who were unable to collect their cards due to challenges at some centres to do so accordingly.

“Persons who registered during the exercise and were not issued their Ghana Cards will be informed via text messages, phone calls, Radio and Television announcements about designated Ghana Card collection points for their cards”.
