Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ghana are urging the government and Parliament to reverse legislation allowing development in forest reserves.
They demanded the immediate halt of Executive Instrument 144 and Legislative Instrument 246 (2), which declassified the Achimota Forest and other reserves.
Eco-Conscious Citizens coordinator, Awula Serwaa, criticized the move on Citi FM, emphasizing that the lands were intended for horticultural, not commercial, purposes and that their development harms public health.
A Rocha Ghana’s Deputy Director, Daryl Bosu, echoed this, calling on the Lands Minister to stop the demarcation and preserve the Achimota Forest.
