Accra recorded a 14% reduction in road crash fatalities in 2023, marking the third consecutive year of decline, according to the 2023 Accra Road Safety Report.

Road deaths fell from 102 in 2022 to 88 in 2023, with vulnerable road users—pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bicyclists—making up 82% of fatalities.

Mayor Elizabeth Sackey commended stakeholders but emphasized the need for continued efforts to protect vulnerable road users.

High-risk areas include Opeibea Intersection and Avenor Junction.

Director-General of NRSA, Ing. David Adonteng, called for intensified advocacy, highlighting education, enforcement, and community involvement as critical.

The report, launched on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, provides a data-driven roadmap for improving road safety.
