SDTA Awards honors Ecow Smith-Asante as Supreme African Film Icon of the Decade

It was a starry night at the third edition of the Global and Prestigious, Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards, (SDTA Awards) Gala, held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on the 20th of December 2023.

If one were sitting in the audience, a neck spasm would be impending with all the turning and trying to spot the celebrities, diplomats and other dignitaries While trying to catch all the fun on stage, from musical performances to Cultural dance, to poetry etc, It was indeed a night of glittering performances, tickling humor, and humble gratifications.

Ecow Smith-Asante, the Ghanaian reality famous actor extraordinaire with fluid agility and a sun’s vision as an Actual Producer, has been honored with the Supreme African Film Icon of the Decade at the third edition of the Global and Prestigious, Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards 2023, for his astounding achievements and incredible body of work in the film industry.

There are no Previous recipients of the Supreme African Film Icon of the Decade Award, as Ecow Smith-Asante is the first to receive this prestigious Honor.

The Supreme African Film Icon of the Decade Award, is an honorary award category, presented by the Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards (SDTA Awards) for the first time on the special occasion of it’s third anniversary or milestone, and it was presented at the SDTA Awards 2023 Gala to Ecow Smith-Asante on the stage, by the Lebanon Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Maher Kheir.

The award recipients for the Decade Film category are chosen at the discretion of the jury and Advisory Board and not open for public voting. However, public nominations are allowed.

This Special recognition category is reserved only for the finest of film stars & filmmakers, who stand out for consistently portraying supremacy in their work over the Decade.

The Multiple award-winning star made a short but heartfelt speech on stage to expresshHis gratitude for being honored as the Supreme African Film Icon of the Decade at the SDTA Awards Gala 2023, he encouraged everyone present at the event to keep working on bettering their craft because you never know who is watching.

Ecow Smith-Asante’s career stretches throughout a decade and over 5 years, with him as the leading man in front of and behind the camera.

As Ecow Smith-Asante’s acting résumé and reputation started to expand, he was placed on Ghallywood and Nollywood’s radar as a gifted actor whose talent could captivate audiences and he never misses the mark as he switches between acting, producing, and directing.

When it comes to making work that impacts and makes you feel every moment of the film as though it were real life, Ecow Smith-Asante is unmatched. He is very talented, creative and gifted in acting and interpretations of movie roles. His expansive career as an Actor, television personality, producer, director, and production designer, continues to uplift and enlighten so many, and he just keeps getting better.



Ecow Smith-Asante is more commonly associated with action and romantic roles. He is an actor and assistant director, best known for Forced (2022), Gold Coast (2015) and Devil in the Detail (2014), with his major breakthrough as an actor in 2008, when he rose to fame after acting in the Ghana blockbuster movie “Passion of the Soul” a movie that brought him to limelight and gave him an advantage in Nollywood.

ECOW SMITH-ASANTE ‘s BIOGRAPHY

Ecow Smith-Asante was born on 15 April 1973 in Takoradi, Western Region of Ghana.

The actor completed his primary and secondary school education in Takoradi, Ghana. After completion, he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate, respectively. Later after his high school education, Ecow joined the University of Ghana, where he earned his National Diploma and Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts. In addition, he boasts an array of educational qualifications, including: 1994 – Teachers Certificate from Presbyterian Training College. 1995 – Acting on Stage from Freelance Drama Group 1997 – Stage managers course from Ghana union of theater societies. Theater institution. 2002 – Diploma, Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana 2005 – Event management from Ghana Institute of Journalism. Tertiary institution 2005 – National service in the production department from the National film and television institute 2008 – Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre management from the University of Ghana.
