Had it not been for the fact that she was in the midst of health professionals, the story would have been different for the Second Lady when she suffocated on Tuesday afternoon.
Initial reports suggested that Mrs. Samira Bawumia, wife of Ghana’s Vice President, had collapsed at an ongoing congress of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.
But the Second Lady clarified her condition with a post on Facebook, discounting reports that she had collapsed.
Expressing her gratitude to nurses and midwives present at the event, she explained that she suffered from the heat at the conference.
Mrs. Bawumia had been invited to deliver the keynote address at the opening of the 17th Biennial National Delegates Congress of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The GRNMA, founded in March 1960, is a professional association of Ghanaian nurses and midwives enrolled by the Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana.
“I am grateful to the professionals present, for their timely intervention after I succumbed to the heat at the conference venue. Thank you all for the well-wishes,” Samira Bawumia posted on Facebook.
She also shared pictures of the event while addressing the gathering, looking healthy and cheerful.
