Seek greener pastures home not abroad – Samira Bawumia

The wife of vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on Ghanaian youth to take advantage of opportunities provided by government to better themselves at home rather than travel abroad to get exploited and abused in their quest for greener pastures.

Mrs Samira Bawumia said this in her keynote address at the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) international relations seminar on Migration under the theme, “The Opportunities and Challenges of African Youth Migration; the Untold Stories”.

She noted that at the heart of every migrant's story is the drive to be better, do better and have better but the menace of irregular migration by the youth has become a major challenge for the International community.

“Our young talents are being abused, exploited and dehumanised in their quest for greener pastures. Our government in fulfilling its mandate to Ghanaian citizens has put a number of measures in place to help the youth succeed here at home. The onus thus lies on each and every one of us to take advantage of these opportunities and create new ones,” she stated.

Mrs Bawumia applauded NUGS for organising the seminar to create awareness on the effects of illegal migration adding that “together, we can curb this menace”.
