A group of small-scale miners has taken action against illegal mining operations in support of the government's efforts to combat "galamsey" (illegal mining).

They launched attacks on illegal mining sites in the Ashanti and Western regions, dismantling equipment and disrupting operations.

The miners argue that illegal mining harms their legitimate business and contributes to environmental destruction.

At a meeting in the Amansie West District, Mr. Joseph Mensah, the Zonal Chairman of the Small Scale Miners Association, urged the government to trust them in tackling illegal mining.
