The explanation by the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo South, George Boakye regarding the visa fraud claim by the UK Embassy in Ghana shows some Members of Parliament (MPs) are “criminals”, Akwasi Agyemang Ofori Boadi has said.

“We have just allowed people and criminals who are not fit to hold positions of trust to just get there. Every now and then they keep bringing embarrassment to the legislature”, the former Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi said on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM.

“We have a legislature having names being brought into disrepute like the one that is happening. It casts a slur on the country’s integrity when that is supposed to be the body to check the executive. The legislature is portrayed as harbouring criminals and how can criminals check executives who will want to do things untoward,” he asked

The 2016 National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed parliamentary candidate stated that the usage of “visa fraud” to describe the activities of the MPs was too harsh a word by the UK Ambassador.

“But listened to interviews, the guy [George Boakye] is really telling me he is indeed a criminal. How can you travel with your daughter abroad who has never traveled; who has not been in that particular domain and does not know her way in and out go and see an uncle you yourself do not know……. and then you are unable to trace your daughter and bring to your house where she is supposed to be domiciled and you don’t report to any security in the UK then you come to Ghana to tell us this cock and bull story,” he wondered.

George Boakye, in response to allegations of Visa Fraud said that his 37-year-old daughter tricked him into taking her to London under the pretext of going to see her uncle, but disappeared on their arrival in the UK.

According to him, although he knew he was being irresponsible by not reporting his daughter’s disappearance once he couldn’t find her and feared a report to security officials would have her incarcerated.
