Food and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong has stated that declaring a state of emergency to combat illegal mining, or "galamsey," will be ineffective without strong community involvement.
Speaking on Joy News' PM Express Business Edition, he emphasized the need for a national dialogue that includes all sectors of society.
Acheampong explained that government interventions, such as deploying security forces, only offer short-term solutions.
The real fight, he said, must be led by local communities directly affected by galamsey.
He urged citizens to protect their lands and resources and called for collective action involving civil society, security forces, and political leaders to address the crisis.
