State prosecutors fail again to begin trial of J.B Danquah’s killers

State prosecutors today asked for more time to begin the prosecution of Daniel Aseidu and Vincent Bosso, the two persons who have been indicted to stand trial at the High Court, Criminal division, for murdering former NPP Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah.

The Attorney General in a letter to Justice L.L. Mensah’s court, requested a short adjournment from the court with the excuse that State Attorneys are currently receiving some capacity building training and are therefore unable to make it to court to start the trial.

The court has obliged them and adjourned the case to the 5th of May 2017. Pro bono lawyer for the accused persons, Augustine Obour was absent from court as well. The Presiding judge asked the accused persons who were present in court to make contact with their lawyer and to inform him of the next court sitting day.

If the trial had started, the accused persons would have selected a seven member jury for the trial.

Aggrieved family members of JB Danquah have called for speedy justice in the murder case which is already one year in court. They believe that enough is not being done by the state to bring finality to the case which is so dear to their hearts.

A press conference last week to commemorate one year of the passing of the late MP, the family called on government to bring all perpetrators to book.

“Even though J. B cannot come back to life, we want to witness proper justice for him for as long as God is God otherwise J.B Danquah Adu’s blood shall forever remain a bad curse on the head of this nation to which every individual shall feel the pain that he felt at the hands of the Almighty God unless God is dead,” a family member said.
