‘Stay away from social vices’ – Krobo chiefs caution youth ahead of X’mas, New Year celebrations

Two chiefs in the ManyaKrobo Traditional Area of the eastern region, are urging teenagers and the youth to stay away from drug addiction, amorous practices and other social vices during the festive season.

Nene Olepeme Sackinor Nanor I, Chief of Suisi Okuenya and Adaduili Kworsi, Kodjonya and Nene Sipim Narh Tekpertey II of Aklomuase say if the youth of today seek to become responsible future leaders of the country, it will require that, they stay away from all forms of social vices that will lead them into destruction, especially during the yuletide and New Year activities which young people have embraced as an avenue to engage in impropriety.

“Stay away from drug abuse. Today, people think that, it is part of normal life to smoke and drink but this should be discouraged especially during this festive season,” said Nene OlepemeSackinorNanor Iat his palace as part of his caution to the citizenry during the festive season.

Nene Sipim Narh Tekpertey II also called on the youth, especially Christians, to eschew negative practices that were inappropriate for the Christmas and New Year activities.

Speaking in separate interviews, the chiefs were unanimous in thought as they cautioned young men and women to desist from such ungodly practices.
Road accidents

It’s a sad fact that more accidents are recorded particularly during festive seasons, the more reason the two prominent chiefs have additionally appealed to drivers to be extra careful on the roads to make the Christmas holidays accident-free.

Nene Sipim Narh Tekpertey II told this portal that it was unacceptable the spate of car crashes and the attendant loss of lives and property, adding that everything possible must be done to ensure accident free - before, during and after the Yuletide.

According to Nene Olepeme Sackinor Nanor I, what was more disturbing was the fact that most of the crashes were the result of human error – speeding, drink driving, lack of maintenance, bad roads and disregard for road signs and markings.

The chiefs said this could not be allowed to continue and that there was the need to enforce discipline, adding that various Transport Unions must step up their road safety education campaigns to help restore some level of sanity and assure travelers of their safety and appealed to other transport associations to join hands to reduce accidents.

They therefore called on the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) to step up road patrols and bring to justice offending drivers to book to save human lives.

Nene Olepeme Sackinor Nanor I commended police personnel of the Odumase-Police Command for their efforts in tackling crime in the municipality.
This he said, had ensured that Krobo roads were now free of various criminal activities including armed robberies which hitherto were recorded rampantly on the roads.
