'Stop blaming the police for every injustice' – IGP

Inspector-General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu has asked the public to desist from apportioning blames to law enforcement agencies for crimes people commit in the country.

Mr Asante-Apeatu mentioned that officials of the police service who serve the country daily are most often accused of being too violent and when they are more cautious, they are accused of pulling back or being ‘soft’.

To that effect, he underscored the need to extend support and not blame them for every injustice perpetrated in the country.

He also established that, being in a hurry to judge police officers before investigations or most times before an evidence pops up does not solve the issue but rather “fuels the fire”.

“We would do our bit and also advice the public to desist from using the police as soft target to blame. Security is a collaborative responsibility. Do your part and support the law enforcement Authorities to operate.”

Ghana Police Service earlier denied knowledge of the several hooded and heavily armed individuals said to be operatives of the National Security who caused chaos during the by-election.



However, subsequent events supported by video footage from the scene in which a police officer is seen driving the hooded men however, indicates that denial is not enough and the police command, headed by the IGP have questions to answer.

Several security officials including the IGP has since been asked to step down because he has been unable to bring to book the unidentified armed men who were using police vehicles and weapons to brutalize innocent and helpless civilians when six persons were shot at close range injuring them severely during the elections.
