Speaking at the 2nd edition of the ‘Change Africa Summit’ under the theme; “The Archetype Change from Job Seeking to Job Creation” at the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) in Accra on Friday April 20, 2018, Dr. Osei-Kusi urged students and business minded individuals to change the status quo of the job seeking emulated pattern to job creation models in Ghana.

He argued that, Africa is undoubtedly blessed with rich natural resources yet our continent continue to cripple and crawl behind other nations with fewer possessions.

It is in this regard that Dr. Osei-Kusi urged the vibrant youth to take initiatives of becoming entrepreneurs rather than passing through tertiary cycles with hopes of securing jobs that are nonexistent.

“Africa has 60% of the world’s resources and yet what percentage of global business does Africa contribute to? Only 3% and you are sitting her having fun, you are in Ghana chilling? I don’t want to say you are sick but if you live with 60% percent of the resources of the world and yet you control only 3% of the money and the businesses then you have a big problem that you cannot sleep… you’re sitting here having fun, sitting in your dormitories chilling, watching movies, playing on social media? The world is moving at a rate” he said.

Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah argued in his book “Neo-Colonialism, the last stage of imperialism” that the continent Africa holds over 70% of the world’s natural resources but years down the line, the continent remains the poorest in the world.

The question it brings then is, if Africa is so rich in resources, why is it then the poorest continent in the world?

President Nana Akufo-Addo upon assumption of office in 2016 has expressed his desire to mobilize and maximize domestic revenue as an integral part of his government to materialise a vision of a Ghana Beyond Aid.

The President, who has on various national and international platforms emphasized his belief that Ghana, like many other African countries, is endowed with enormous resources to guarantee its growth has indicated that a government under him is “bent on mobilizing Ghana’s own considerable resources to resolve Ghana’s problems.”

According to him, the government has so far worked to harness the resources available to the country to resolve some of its key challenges.

However, the opposition NDC and some civil society groups have described Akufo-Addo’s vision of a Ghana Beyond Aid as a mere rhetoric which will not see the light of the day, a claim the the NPP has demystified.
