Supreme Court dismisses objection to empaneling of Justice Ernest Gaewu

The Supreme Court has dismissed a challenge against Justice Ernest Gaewu's participation in a case involving Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.

Lawyer Thaddeus Sory argued that Gaewu’s past political ties with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) posed a conflict of interest.

Bagbin's legal team requested Gaewu's recusal, citing concerns about impartiality in light of his political background.

The Supreme Court has begun hearings on Bagbin's appeal to overturn a prior ruling that affected parliamentary seat declarations.

Despite objections, the court upheld Gaewu's role, underscoring concerns about judicial independence in Ghana.
