TV3 to discuss Ebola and its effects

Tv3 Network, the most authoritative news station’s programme dubbed: “The Platform,” would be discussing the deadly Ebola virus and its devastating effect on livelihoods in the sub region.

The objective of the roundtable is to tease out the critical issues, reassess the country’s preparedness, the economic implications and stigmatisation.

The Ebola virus has killed more than 5,000 people, according to the latest statistics released by the World Health Organisation (WHO), with 14,098 reported cases of Ebola mostly in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

In spite of assurances from the Ministry of Health that Ghana is ready to fight Ebola in view of the case management, logistics, security and financial resources, put in place by the Inter-Ministerial team comprising the Ministries of Health, Communications, Defence, Interior and Local Government and Rural Development.

A statement issued by Tv3 in Accra and copied to Ghana News Agency said many including health workers have expressed concern on whether the measures are enough to manage any suspected case of Ebola.

The speakers would be Dr Magda Robalo of WHO, Dr Victor Bampoe Deputy Minister of Health and Dr Opoku Adusei- President of Ghana Medical Association.

The rest are Dr Badu Sarkodie of Ghana Health Service, and Dr Nii-Noi Ashong, an Economist and a pool of participants from the pharmaceutical, research, medical and governmental agencies and departments.

The Chief of Esikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina, Nketsia V, would chair the discussion.
