New Patriotic Party (NPP) has averred that the decision to suspend the membership of its founder member, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, although yet to be communicated to him, “is perfectly in order”.
Communications Director, Nana Akomea, insisted that the constitution of the party gives power to the leadership to suspend any member “whose behavior puts it into disrepute”, pending disciplinary hearing.
“The decision to suspend Dr. Brobby is perfectly in order,” Nana Akomea stated in an interview with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on the Joy FM Super Morning Show, Monday, June 3, 2013.
Nana Akomea suspects Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby is “confusing suspension with expulsion”. While the decision to suspend a member for unruly behaviour is taken pending a disciplinary hearing, expulsion is a decision reached by the disciplinary committee after the hearing, Nana Akomea explained.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the NPP reached a decision to suspend Dr. Wereko Brobby from the party last Thursday, after it considered his comments and criticisms of party going to court to challenge the results of the 2012 elections.
Reacting to the suspension in a letter copied Myjoyonline.com Sunday; the NPP founder member said his suspension from the party was a “supreme irony!”
According him, he only got to know about the suspension after the name of Perry Okudzeto, the Deputy Communications Director of the NPP was mentioned as having gone on record to confirm “the surreal tale of my purported suspension from the NPP.”
Meanwhile, Nana Akomea who will not confirm or deny reports that it had suspended Dr. Wereko-Brobby indicated, the founder member will receive official communication from the party by close of “today or tomorrow”, regarding the suspension of his membership.
