The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) at a special assembly meeting has confirmed Ms. Anna Adukwei Addo as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Assembly.

All 15 members, including; eleven elected Assembly Members and four government appointees who were present at the confirmation, voted overwhelmingly for the President's nominee.

This represented 100 percent of the total votes, albeit a government appointee, Mr Samuel Afotey Odai, representing the Nungua Traditional Council had unfortunately passed on, the Ghana News Agency learnt.

Ms Adukwei Addo, a Banker, was therefore confirmed by two-thirds majority of votes of Assembly Members in accordance with the Local Government Act, 2016, and would succeed Mrs Adwoa Amoako as the second MCE of TWMA.

Situated in the South-Eastern part of the Greater Accra Region, the Tema West Municipal Assembly was inaugurated in March 2018 after it was carved out of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly by Local Government Act (2016), Act 936 and the Legislative Instrument, 2017, LI 2317.

The Assembly has three zonal councils; Tema West, Batsonaa and Adjei Kojo.

In an address, Mr Henry Quartey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, expressed appreciation to the outgoing MCE for her commitment in providing leadership since the inception of the Municipal Assembly.

He called for inclusiveness with a united agenda and focus on the development of the Assembly, stressing the work of the Assembly required a shared and inclusive participation by all stakeholders.

He congratulated the incoming MCE, and retorted that, "this time MCE job will not be office job" but requires working for the people on the ground and ensure that their respective developmental issues are approached with all the seriousness it deserves.

"You need many pairs of jeans and boots because we will be hitting the ground to begin to correct the wrongs of the past but ultimately with a mindset to develop the region," he added.

Ms Adukwei Addo, newly elected MCE for Tema West, expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in her, and pledged to work to ensure the development of the Tema West Municipality.

"I look forward to working with all Assembly Members to promote the welfare and wellbeing of members of our Municipality and make Tema West a better place for all," she said.

She admitted that, there was an arduous task to be undertaken in providing social-economic development through mobilisation and utilisation of quality human and material resources to improve the living conditions of people.

Ms Adukwei Addo said her vision resonated with the Municipality's, which, among other things, required a lot of work in all the Zonal Councils of the Municipality but with a united front.

Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of the Council of State, Greater Accra Region, appealed to the Assembly to use members in its revenue mobilisation drive and take it a notch higher.

The newly elected MCE is a native of the Greater Accra Region, and had her secondary education-Ordinary and Advanced Level at the St. Mary’s Secondary School and proceeded to the Accra Polytechnic where she obtained an HND in Secretaryship and Management Studies.

She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Executive Secretary from the Central University in 2005, and subsequently acquired a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the University of Ghana Business School in 2014.

Prior to her nomination, Ms Adukwei Addo, was the Branch Manager of Prudential Bank Limited, Airport Branch.
