The law is too loose on MPs; 15 days of absenteeism is high – Prof Kantanka

Prof. Kwabena Sarfo Kantanka, a parliamentary discourse analyst, has criticized the lenient laws on MPs' absenteeism, arguing that the current allowance of fifteen days is too high.

He emphasized that MPs should be present to discuss government business and that constituents should be angry at absent MPs.

Kantanka suggested reducing the allowed absentee days to seven and noted that the Privileges Committee, composed of MPs, lacks the strength to enforce punishments.

He called for new legislation to address absenteeism more effectively, asserting that stricter measures are necessary to ensure MPs fulfill their duties.
