There’s no addition to Sunday’s special voting list – EC

The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC), despite an earlier statement indicating providing an updated list for the continuation of the Special Voting on Sunday, says no additions were made to the list used on Thursday.

The exercise was rocked with numerous cases of missing names of voters on December 1, forcing political parties to agree on a second day for the exercise. A statement released by the Commission after Thursday’s exercise assured of an updated list for Sunday’s voting.

But speaking on 3FM on Sunday morning after several reported cases of the same issues, Head of Communications at the EC Eric Kofi Dzakpasu stressed, “There is no addition to the list”.

He, therefore, cautioned that those whose names were not on the list last Thursday, should not bother themselves going to their centers to vote.

Sabotage

He said they would have to join everybody else on election day Wednesday, December 7 to cast their ballots, though they would be given priority.

But some officers have accused the EC of sabotage to get them disenfranchised.

Others have also called the exercise fruitless, adducing that not finding their names in the register meant there was no need for a second day of voting.

An officer, who spoke to TV3’s William Evans Nkum on Sunday, said he was at the Kaneshie Police Station to vote last Thursday but his name was not in the register.

Upon directives that he would have to vote at his constituency of registration, he returned to the Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region only to be told his name is not on the list there too.

Some officers have threatened to boycott duties on election day to exercise their franchise on Wednesday without recourse to where they will be deployed.
