Today in 2012: NPP goes to court over 'rigged' election

The New Patriotic Party in 2012 headed to court to contest irregularities in the 2012 election results. The party accused the National Democratic Congress of rigging the elections.

The NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo who accumulated 47.74% of the votes casted was defeated by incumbent president, John Mahama who gained 50.7% of the votes.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has resolved to go to court to contest the election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The party is challenging the figures announced by the Electoral Commission which declared President John Mahama as winner of the 2012 elections.

This decision was taken after a marathon meeting by the elders of the party.
