Lawyer and Host of News Analysis show Newsfile, Sampson Lardy Ayenini has expressed shock at the sudden u-turn by a reporter with ModernGhana Emmanuel Britwum over alleged torture by operatives of the National Security.
Emmanuel Britwum, a reporter of the online media portal initially claimed he was subjected to assault and other forms of torture by operatives of the National Security after they were arrested for allegedly plotting cyber-attacks on some media houses in the country.
In less than six hours after he held this position that he was assaulted, the reporter in a dramatic turn said he was never assaulted by the National Security operatives.
In a statement issued through his counsel, one Debora Asabere-Ameyaw, Emmanuel Britwum said he was never assaulted and had also not seen his colleague Emmanuel Ajarfuor Abugri assaulted too.
The sudden U-turn has shocked Mr Sampson Anyenini who questioned the reporter thrice on whether he was actually assaulted and the reported in the affirmative all in the presence of witnesses including the leadership of OneGhana Movement who called upon Mr Ayenini to offer legal support to the journalists.
Narrating events prior to the sudden change of claims by the reporter, Sampson Ayenini said he had met with the reporter at the Police station at midday on Wednesday where he was asked to report.
“I asked him more than five times,” The lawyer recalled his interaction with his now former client. Mr Lardy said he gave this testimony in the presence of lawyers, journalists and friends.
“I am learning for the first time that he has gone to get another lawyer…. It is strange that some lawyer has surfaced and claimed he was not tortured,” Mr Ayenini said on Joy FM’s News Nite on Wednesday monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
It is not exactly clear what might have caused this sudden U-turn by Emmanuel Britwum.
