US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has defended the new visa restriction policy targeting individuals who undermine Ghana's democracy, explaining it aims to prevent those responsible for harming the country's democratic processes from entering the US.

She clarified that the policy is not aimed at the Ghanaian government or any political party but is meant to deter actions such as election manipulation, violence, or hate speech.

Palmer emphasized that the US hopes to use the tool to encourage peaceful and transparent elections, noting that Ghana is the fourth African country to face such measures.

The policy applies to individuals involved in electoral misconduct before, during, or after the 2024 elections.
