Read full articleout people with degrees and not people with an education. ”You are churning out people with degrees not people with an education, not people with skills,” he said.
“It starts with you guys as lecturers. It starts with you being the thinkers. You guys are not thinking. Respectfully, no thinking is going on here” He made the remarks during an alumni homecoming conference held as part of events to mark the 70th anniversary of the institution.
Reacting to the issue however, some students of the University who spoke to Ghanaweb, largely endorsed statements made by the old student. Though admitting the wording used by Mr Hosi were too strong and could have been put better, they maintained that his assertions were not far from the truth.
He wasn’t right to use that word per say but in the context he is right because their politics and everything is not making the school better. I do computer engineering but if not for internship opportunities I wouldn’t know how to use some tools, everything we are doing is just theory”, a student said.
A past student who was also captured by our camera said;
“Most of my colleagues I graduated University of Ghana with are still at home, waiting for people to employ them but university, basically, it trains you to give you the knowledge to create your own avenues”.
Others also attributed the issue to problems with the country’s education system.
“If there should be a change in our educational structure I think that will help. Because the problem is with our education structure.”
Meanwhile, Management and lecturers of the institution have however disputed the statements and assertions by Senyo Hosi.
