The Supreme Court will rule on November 11, 2024, on the case over four parliamentary seats declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin.
The Attorney General opposes Bagbin’s use of private lawyer Thaddeus Sory, arguing it lacked required Public Procurement Authority (PPA) approval.
Speaker Bagbin’s decision to declare the seats vacant, based on his reading of the Constitution, was challenged by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who says Bagbin overstepped his powers.
The court dismissed Bagbin’s appeal to reverse its earlier ruling, affirming its role in overseeing constitutional matters that impact representation.
