Dr. Clifford Braimah, Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has emphasized that protecting water bodies from illegal mining is a national security issue.
He argues that, like other countries where water bodies are treated as national security zones, Ghana should consider elevating the Water Resources Commission’s role to military oversight.
This move, he believes, could address the severe disruptions to water supply in areas like Cape Coast and Elmina caused by illegal mining in the Pra River.
Dr. Braimah insists that a dedicated military approach could resolve the issue quickly, urging a more decisive and less politicized strategy to protect water resources.
