The Catholic Church in Ghana has declared that it will not accept donations derived from illegal mining, known as galamsey.
This decision, announced by the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, aims to address the involvement of church members in galamsey activities.
Rev Gyamfi emphasized that stricter sanctions would be imposed, including potentially denying Holy Communion to members who persist in illegal mining after repeated warnings.
He also urged the public to take responsibility in protecting their land and water bodies from the destructive effects of galamsey.
