We must regain momentum in fight against galamsey – Ken Ashigbey

The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has expressed frustration over the declining public demand to end illegal mining in Ghana.

Ing. Kenneth Ashigbey, the coalition's convener, highlighted that the middle class has not shown enough commitment to the fight against galamsey.

In an interview on Citi FM, he criticized Parliament for not revoking Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2462, which allows mining in forest reserves, and emphasized the need for collective action to address the environmental and social impacts of illegal mining.

Ashigbey called for a regrouping of stakeholders, including the middle class and academia, to intensify efforts against galamsey.
