Security consultant Prof. Kwesi Aning has raised concerns over the widespread corruption undermining the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.

He noted that public institutions accepting "gifts" from companies involved in galamsey compromises their ability to protect lands.

Prof. Aning believes that no political party will successfully tackle galamsey, regardless of election outcomes.

He also called for background checks on public office candidates to expose any connections to groups threatening Ghana's survival, stressing that corruption hampers the country's ability to fight illegal mining.
