The CEO of the Minerals Commission, Martin Kwaku Ayisi, opposes a blanket ban on small-scale mining, arguing it would harm legal operators.
He emphasized the need to regulate illegal mining rather than punishing those with licenses.
Ayisi highlighted the lack of authorised mining sites as a key issue driving illegal activities and suggested providing designated areas for legal miners.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Water Company Limited supports calls for an outright ban on small-scale mining due to the severe water pollution caused by galamsey, which has made water purification increasingly difficult.
