Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has reiterated calls for the UK to return looted artefacts to their rightful owners, criticizing British laws that protect such illegality.
Speaking in the UK, he highlighted the recent loan of 32 artefacts to Manhyia Palace and stressed the need for legal updates to address historical injustices.
The return of these items has rejuvenated pride in Asante heritage and inspired young artists.
Otumfuo noted that efforts for restitution began 50 years ago, with significant progress marked by a 1982 exhibition at the British Museum and ongoing cultural cooperation.
