Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has reiterated the call for Britain to return looted artefacts to their rightful owners, criticizing UK laws that protect such illegality.

This follows the UK loaning Manhyia Palace 32 artefacts looted during the colonial era.

Speaking on ‘Asante Culture and Heritage: Past and Present’ in the UK, the Asantehene emphasized the need to review outdated laws. He noted that returning the artefacts has renewed pride in Asante heritage and inspired young artists.

The push for restitution dates back 50 years, with previous Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware II also advocating for the return of these cultural objects.
