Withdraw road traffic regulations amendment – Bureau of Public Safety

The Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) has criticized recent amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations Act LI 2180, which extend speed limit exemptions and permissions to MPs and state ministers.

These changes would apply in sensitive areas like school zones, residential areas, and hospitals, and allow the use of sirens and alarms on their vehicles.

BPS argues this will endanger road safety, citing Ghana's high road crash rates due to speeding.

They contend the amendments promote inequality and could lead to misuse of power, urging the transport minister to withdraw the bill and prioritize policies that ensure public safety and equality.
