Wontumi can’t induce me with money - Yamoah Ponkoh

The allegation of inducement in the camp of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region by the former Municipal Chief Executive for the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, Yamoah Ponkoh has stirred up commotion as many are chastising him for his ‘unfounded’ assertion.

He said inasmuch as he cannot name his source of information from the ruling NPP that some NDC Executives in the Ashanti Region are on the payroll of the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (a.k.a Chairman Wontumi), he does not make false claims.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Yamoah Ponkoh insisted that he is not prepared to name those NDC officers who are on the payroll of Chairman Wontumi, but rather cautioned the leadership of his party to stamp their foot on the ground in order not to avert the opportunity of former President Mahama to winning the 2020 general elections.

He maintained that the happenings in the camp of the NDC in the Ashanti Region cannot be left for the party’s Chairman and his executives alone to handle as it should be a collective responsibility including himself to ensure that Chairman Wontumi does not manipulate things in the Ashanti Region.

“NDC must come to power at all cost because Ghanaians are suffering and crying for the NDC to come to their rescue. All of us must be careful in the Ashanti Region. If we allow only the NDC Chairman in the region to handle the situation, it will not help us,” he advised.

According to Yamoah Ponkoh, Chairman Wontumi cannot induce him with money in any way to turn against the NDC.

"I am not someone who can be influenced by money; I work with principles and it is based on these principles that people don’t like me,” he assured.

He said he is starving because of what the NPP Chairman did to him and and former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly(KMA) Boss, Kojo Bonsu in the Ashanti Region.

He further cautioned the NDC Executives in the region not to underrate Chairman Wontumi.

“While we are sleeping at night, some few individuals because of their stomach are doing things to affect the chances of the party in the 2020 general elections. We need to speak up . . . Wontumi recently said he will make sure there is no peace in Asawase and this is exactly what is happening to the NDC in Asawase. This is exactly what I have been saying and some people have taken me out of context,” he asserted.

He stressed that his warning to the NDC in Ashanti Region should not be taken for granted but rather should encourage the party members in the region to stay focus in spite of the starvation they are all experiencing under President Akufo-Addo' government.

He asserted that some people in the NDC during his struggle to stay in office as MCE at Ejisu-Juaben Municipality helped Chairman Wontumi to oust him from office.

“I will never underrate the guy (Wontumi) again as I used to do,” he vowed.
