Work hard to avoid becoming educated illiterates – AIT Matriculants urged

Gaining knowledge is insufficient, going the next step to act out this knowledge and affect the world positively should be the sole focus of every student such that one does not end up being an educated illiterate and consequently irrelevant to their country; these were the words of Provost-College of Engineering at KNUST, Prof. Mark Adom-Asamoah to newly enrolled students

Prof. Adom-Asamoah, while assuring students of maximum support from the school academically, encouraged the matriculants to work hard to uphold the highest standards set by the institution over the years.

“It is my earnest hope that you work hard so you do not become an educated illiterate”, he said.

“We will like to assure the students and the entire AIT community of our firm resolve to maintain the highest standards as far as the training of the students is concerned. Quality education requires a great deal of efforts from both students and lecturers and of course an enabling and conducive environment which is provided for by the university administration”, he continued.

President of AIT, Prof. Clement Dzidonu on his part, welcomed the students and admonished them to set high standards and live up to them. He also called on all students to take responsibility for their actions and never give up what they want to do.

“Set high personal and academic standards for yourself and live up to them. Remember that grades count and you must earn your grades, choose your friends carefully, don’t make important decisions based on second-hand information, seek out special opportunities and take time to give back to the university”, he told students in his address at the event.

He also challenged freshmen and women to do more to achieve the ultimate goal of academic success and project the good brand of the Institute during their stay as well as be guided by the values the institute instils in them.

“As you journey through AIT, be guided by the values we instil in you, build your wealth of knowledge you acquire and have courage to act these values and knowledge” he noted.

The 2018 Matriculation of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) was held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, to welcome newly enrolled students for the 2018/2019 academic year.

The school which is an affiliate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) saw 957 students matriculating out of which 701 are campus-based and 256 open based.

A total of 801 males and 156 females were formally inducted into the university to read various programs including CTech/DTech programs, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Business administration.

Students pursuing postgraduate and various Master’s Degree and PhD programs were also matriculated.

The ceremony was graced by officials of the Institute including the President of the institute, Prof. Clement Dzidonu, Provost-College of Engineering, KNUST, Prof. Mark Adom-Asamoah, Dr. John Andor Bosco, Executive Manager, Division of Academic Administration, Heads of Departments and Halls as well as other members of Convocation. A number of parents and guardians also witnessed the ceremony.
